Vintage ports are made from a single exceptional harvest, and only when declared a vintage year.
It spends a short time in wood (30 months), and then Bottled unfiltered.
These ports are made to mature in the bottle for many years.
The white mark on a Churchill's Port bottle, also called a "splash mark," indicates how the bottle was stored in the cellar, allowing the sediment to settle on the opposite side.
Quinta Agua Alta is named after the spring at the top of the vineyard and it produces wonderfully pure and fresh water that bubbles up through the granite rock below the thin top soil. Olives and figs grow in abundance around the vineyard which produces a quite stunningly powerful port.
It's a straight-ahead Port that holds nothing back.
It's sweet, with defined full-bore black fruit.
It's nicely balanced, with creamy mild chocolate, propped up by bright acidity.
It is also easy to drink.
Serving Suggestions: The wine benefits from being served slightly chilled, between 12º-16ºC.
All Vintage Port throws a sediment as it has been aged in bottle.
It is therefore essential to decant this wine.
Decanting: To decant, simply hold the bottle with the white mark facing up, keeping the sediment in place at the bottom.
Store the bottle lying down, protected from light, and at a cool and constant temperature.
Food Pairing: This Port is the perfect way to round off a good dinner.
